This can commonly occur in a person when the heart stops due to any reason.
| Due to Cardiac Arrest, blood flow to vital organs namely the Brain, Heart, and Kidney will stop.The other organs except brain have an alternate method of metabolism (generating energy for the cell to survive) for a little longer. So they stumble, do not die immediately. |

| But the brain cells die if the blood with Oxygen and Glucose is not made to flow into the brain within approximately 3 minutes. |

| If this person in whom blood flow had stopped for more than 3 minutes is resuscitated, his heart will start beating again, pump blood to all the organs including brain. |

| With adequate support by resuscitation procedures, the other vital organs (heart and kidney) will be back to normal. |
| |
| But the brain cells already dead cannot be revived by the reestablished blood flow. |
| |
| This person is called Brain Dead and there is no way that he can be back to life again. |
| |
| Such brain dead persons who have no chance of living, but having functioning Kidney and Heart may become donors of organs, if the close relatives decide that way. |

Between life and death there is a relatively wide margin of gap.

| Anaesthesia by itself is an art and application of science to depress the systems of a person at the same time protecting him from a possible death. |

| Anaesthesiologist does a more difficult and complicated work than surgery itself. |
